Liverpool is expecting a depleted roster for its pre-season tour of the United States, with as many as 11 first-team players missing due to international commitments.

Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk, midfield maestro Ryan Gravenberch, and the on-fire Cody Gakpo will be donning the orange of the Netherlands as the country faces off against England in a Euro 2024 semifinal on Wednesday. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez will be on the opposing side, representing Gareth Southgate's Three Lions in Germany.

England managed to edge past Switzerland on penalties on Saturday, with Alexander-Arnold netting the decisive spot kick. Later that evening, Van Dijk and Gakpo were instrumental in helping the Dutch come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Turkey.

Meanwhile, in the other Euros semifinal, Ibrahima Konate will be part of the French team taking on Spain on Tuesday. This means new head coach Slot will be without three of his four senior centre-backs for the US warm-up games, leaving only Jarell Quansah available to make the trip.

Over at the Copa America, Darwin Nunez is set to feature when Uruguay, fresh from its penalty shootout triumph over Brazil, take on Luis Diaz and Colombia in North Carolina on Wednesday. Argentina, with Alexis Mac Allister in its ranks, will go head-to-head with Canada in the other semifinal on Tuesday.

Diaz found the back of the net as Colombia, now on a 27-game unbeaten streak, thrashed Panama 5-0. Meanwhile, Argentina triumphed over Ecuador in a penalty shootout early Saturday morning. The participation of Brazil's goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Portugal's forward Diogo Jota in the Stateside duty remains uncertain after appearing in summer tournaments.

Liverpool players are usually given a three-week break post summer tournaments, which theoretically allows Alisson and Jota to return for the friendlies against Manchester United (July 31) and Arsenal (August 3). However, it is yet to be decided whether either player will be asked to join the final days of the tour or if they would be better off continuing their pre-season fitness training at the AXA Training Centre.

Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai, who were both knocked out at the group stages of the Euros as captains of Scotland and Hungary respectively, are expected to join their club colleagues in America at some point.

Slot was able to welcome back a number of his senior players to the club's Kirkby base on Friday with the likes of Quansah, Curtis Jones, and Conor Bradley reporting for duty alongside Stefan Bajcetic, Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips, and Sepp van den Berg.

Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo will be part of the tour of the States after the decision was taken for both players to stay with Liverpool over representing their countries at the Olympic Games in France later this month. Liverpool will meet La Liga side Sevilla in an Anfield friendly on August 11 before it kicks off its new Premier League campaign at Ipswich Town six days later in the weekend's 12.30pm slot.
