If you haven’t heard yet of Jennie Vee, the singer-songwriter has quite a résumé: In addition to making her own music, she is a member of Eagles of Death Metal and has played bass for Courtney Love (who calls her “the real deal”). As a solo artist, she has supported bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Manic Street Preachers, and the Darkness.

Currently poised to release a new EP, Suffer, Sept. 22 on WaxRomantix Records, the multitalented artist has just completed a lyric video for her affecting single “Hospital Bed.” Yahoo Music is excited to premiere the new work for fans.

“‘Hospital Bed’ is a very personal song, as you can likely surmise from the lyrics. “All my songs are like pages ripped from my diary,” Vee notes. “If you come to my live shows, you know I’m not a huge conversationalist — I don’t like to banter in between songs, and when I do it can be awkward and disjointed. But that is why I am a songwriter: I communicate and share best with my music and I’m truly honored to be able to reach people and share this way.

“This song is about watching a loved one struggle with addiction, feeling guilty for being angry about it, feeling angry about feeling guilty, making painful decisions, and the ones who live and the ones who die. My lyrics are often very stark, very direct, they oftentimes make me uncomfortable, and I highlight this in the second verse when I describe the uncomfortable feeling of a forced intervention in cold and clinical surroundings.

“I want the listener to feel like they have stepped into that moment with me. I have previewed this song live a few times and have cried while singing it.”

Vee has a few solo shows coming up before hitting the road with Eagles of Death Metal this fall. If you’d like to keep up with her schedule, check here.
