How 20 Liverpool stars have fared on international break including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool fans are counting down the days until the Reds return to domestic action as the majority of Arne Slot's squad compete across the world.
The Dutchman has witnessed 20 of his first-team stars called away to represent their countries during the season's first international break, with UEFA Nations League fixtures, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers taking center stage.
The first of those got underway on Thursday as Wataru Endo, Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson all featured, before the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch rounded-off the opening round of fixtures on Saturday.

While the likes of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez have remained on Merseyside, Liverpool.com has been keeping a close-eye on those who are away, making a note of every goal scored and any injury scares received.
Trey Nyoni
Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni was called up for England men’s under-18s for the Lafarge International Tournament in France this month and got off to the perfect start with a goal in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Portugal in their opening game.
The 17-year-old midfielder advanced into the box before placing a precise finish into the back of the net to double the Young Lions' lead in the second-half, and managed 63 minutes of the contest before being replaced. He was then an unused substitute for Friday's 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
Wataru Endo
Reds midfielder Endo has been short of minutes so far this season but found himself placed straight into the starting lineup for Japan's World Cup qualifier against China on Thursday, captaining the side to a thumping 7-0 victory.
The 31-year-old even got himself on the scoresheet, too, with the Samurai Blue captain putting his nation into the lead with a 12th minute strike. Endo managed 71 minutes before being replaced by Leeds midfielder Ao Tanaka.
Conor Bradley
Right-back Conor Bradley helped Northern Ireland get its UEFA Nations League campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg in Belfast on Thursday, playing the full 90 minutes at Windsor Park.
It was the 21-year-old's 18th appearance for the men's senior team and he played in a more advanced right-midfield position in a 3-4-3 formation. He impressed nonetheless, and will be keen to help his side to another three points when the Green and White Army travel to face Bulgaria on Sunday.
Diogo Jota
Jota had started all three of Liverpool's opening Premier League fixtures this season but was reduced to a place on the bench in place of Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal's 2-1 victory over Croatia in the Nations League on Thursday.
However, the versatile forward did replace the 39-year-old, who scored his 900th career goal with the opener, in the 88th minute, meaning he got just a couple of minutes under his belt. He'll now be hoping for more in Sunday's clash with Scotland.
Andy Robertson and Ben Doak
Liverpool's Scottish duo Robertson and Ben Doak both played a part in the Tartan Army's 3-2 defeat to Poland in their Nations League opener on Thursday, where the hosts came from two goals down only to concede a 97th-minute winner.
Robertson captained his side throughout the full 90 minutes, while Doak grabbed 20 minutes off the bench after coming on to replace Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean for his Scotland debut, although he could do nothing to prevent his nation from falling to defeat at Hampden Park.
Alexis Mac Alister
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister brushed off any injury fears by starring for Argentina in its 3-0 victory over Chile in the South American World Cup qualifiers, grabbing the opening goal in Thursday's win.
La Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni struck fear into Reds fans ahead of the game by revealing the 25-year-old hadn't trained due to muscle overload, yet the former Brighton man was named in the starting lineup nonetheless and managed 79 minutes before being replaced.
Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton
Reds duo Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton were called up for England U-21s this week but it was only the former who was involved in Friday's 2025 Euro U-21 qualifier against Northern Ireland, putting in a man-of-the-match display as The Three Lions were held to a 0-0 draw.
Quansah played the full 90 minutes in a back three and is likely to keep his place for Monday's clash against Austria U-21s, where Morton will hope to grab his first minutes after being left on the bench in Ballymena on Friday.
Ibrahima Konate
Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate started from the off against Italy on Friday as France fell to a 3-1 defeat in their Nations League opener at the Parc de Princes in Paris on Friday night.
Starting alongside Arsenal's William Saliba, the 25-year-old managed the full 90 minutes but could do little to prevent the visitors from claiming all three points, and will now hope for better fortunes when Les Bleus host Belgium in Lyon on Monday.
Mohamed Salah
Liverpool's star man headed into the international break on fire following three goals and three assists in the first three games of the season and added another assist to his tally as Egypt overcame Cape Verde with a 3-0 victory in Cairo on Friday.
The 32-year-old cleverly picked out Omar Marmoush in space to slot home from close range to double Egypt's lead just before the break and managed to play the full 90 minutes of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Alisson
Reds No.1 Alisson played a major role in Brazil's victory over Ecuador on Friday by keeping a clean sheet in the narrow 1-0 win, helping the Seleção to remain on track for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Brazil currently sit fourth in the 10-team South American qualifying league, having earned just 10 points from its first seven games. However, Alisson will hope to star once again when his side takes on Paraguay in its next game on Wednesday.
Luis Diaz
Like Alisson, Luis Diaz also played a major role in his side's bid to reach the 2026 World Cup after scoring the equalizer in Colombia's 1-1 draw away to Peru on the same night. Starting on the left of the front three, the 27-year-old popped up in the 82nd minute to earn his side a point.
The result maintains Colombia's unbeaten start to South American qualifying, having won three and drawn four of its first seven games, and leaves them third in the table ahead of Tuesday's crunch tie against Mac Allister's Argentina.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold was finally afforded his usual role for England on Saturday as the Three Lions ran out 2-0 winners over the Republic of Ireland, starting and playing the full 90 minutes at right-back.
The 25-year-old also had a huge say in the opener, after his fine ball to Anthony Gordon set the Newcastle winger through on goal, only to see his effort parried into the path of the oncoming Declan Rice to smash home.
Caoimhin Kelleher
The Irish goalkeeper performed admirably in his side's 2-0 defeat to England but could do nothing to prevent the Three Lions from walking away with all three points, despite pulling off a number of impressive saves to keep the score to a minimum.
Kelleher produced a superb save, in particular, to deny Harry Kane when the visitors’ captain looked set to tuck the ball away in the first-half, sending a defiant message to Arne Slot that he is capable of filling Alisson's boots whenever needed.
Dominik Szoboszlai
It was a rough night for Dominik Szoboszlai on Saturday as the Hungarian watched his nation succumb to a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Germany in its opening Nations League match.
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes for Hungary and captained his side for the defeat, but can only hope for better when his side look to bounce back in Tuesday's clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Kostas Tsimikas
Kostas Tsimikas saw his international break get off to the perfect start as Greece dispatched Finland 3-0 in the other game in England and Ireland's Nations League group, playing the full 90 minutes despite his limited game time for Liverpool this season.
Nonetheless, the left-back put in a solid showing for his nation and will look to continue impressing when it takes on Kelleher's Ireland on Tuesday, with Tsimikas set to start from the off once more.
Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool's Dutch trio of Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk all started in the Netherlands' 5-2 mauling of Bosnia Herzegovina on Saturday, with the former grabbing himself a goal at PSV Eindhoven's Philips Stadion.
Unlike captain Van Dijk and Gravenberch, Gakpo didn't last the full 90 minutes, yet his link-up play in the final third will be crucial once more when the Oranje go head-to-head with Germany on Tuesday.
