Chelsea will compete in their second Club World Cup early next year after winning the 2020/21 Champions League.

The Blues have only made the finals once previously but failed to lift the trophy after losing 1-0 to Corinthians in Japan.

Since then, a European team has won the competition every year with Bayern Munich defeating Mexico’s Tigres in last year’s final, which was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2021 competition has also been pushed back and changed venue, from Japan to the UAE, amid the pandemic. But Chelsea will have high hopes of lifting the crown once and for all with their route to glory soon to be mapped out.

Chelsea will enter the competition at the semi-final stage and will be placed in the opposite side of the draw to the winner of South America’s Copa Libertadores.

African champions Al Ahly, Asian champions Al Hilal and North American champions Monterrey join the winner of that game for the second round. The two winners of those matches will face either Chelsea or the South American champions in the semi-finals.

The Copa Libertadores will be won by either Flamengo or Palmeiras, both of Brazil, in the final on Saturday, November 27.
