A new date for the Grammy Awards has been set, event organisers have announced.

The 2022 ceremony, which was due to take place on January 31, was postponed due to concerns over Covid-19.

But in a statement, the Academy said it will now take place on Sunday April 3, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Academy and CBS said the event was to be held off “after careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners”.

It continued: “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

“Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks.”

The ceremony will be presented by comedian Trevor Noah, best-known for hosting The Daily Show.

The Academy also said that “additional details about the dates and locations of other Grammy Week events, including the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, MusiCares Person of the Year and the Pre-Grammy Gala will be announced soon”, as it announced the rescheduled date.

Several big names in the music industry will be going up against each other for the biggest awards of the night at the Grammys, with Billie Eilish, Oliva Rodrigo and Lil Nas X all earning nominations.

Jon Batiste bagged 11 nominations alone, including for album of the year and record of the year.

Going head-to-head for record of the year are Abba, Justin Bieber, Jon Batiste, Doja Cat, Brandi Carlile, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, Silk Sonic and Billie Eilish.

Meanwhile, those up for song of the year are: Ed Sheeran with Bad Habits, Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers License, Doja Cat’s Kiss Me More, H.E.R.’s Fight For You, Lil Nas X’s Montero (Call Me By Your Name), Justin Bieber’s Peaches and Brandi Carlile’s Right On Time and Alicia Keys’s A Beautiful Noise featuring Brandi Carlile.

Jay Z has made history as the most nominated person in Grammy history with a total of 83, after earning two more this year for best rap song.

Olivia Rodrigo could also be on course to make history if she wins all four general field categories, as she would become just the second woman and the second-youngest person ever to do so.
