Match Preview

On the back of a solitary point against hosts Qatar, India will be looking to register their first win of the campaign when they face against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

From a dominating first-half performance against Oman in a match that Igor Stimac's men lost 2-1 after conceding late goals, it was an inspirational performance by India against the Asian champions Qatar in the following game.

Although Sunil Chhetri is back in contention after missing the last match and Rahul Bheke recovered from his injury, the Blue Tigers will be without the services of Sandesh Jhingan who are injured. Midfiielder Rowlin Borges is suspended for the tie after having picked up two yellow cards.

Anas Edathodika is likely to pair up with Adil Khan at the heart of the defence and Mandar Rao Dessai at left-back while Sahal Abdul Samad is expected to aid the attack around the Bengaluru FC trident of Udanta Singh, Ashique Kuruniyan and Chhetri. Anas coming out of retirement has acted as a blessing in disguise, with Jhingan ruled out for the season.

Despite losing 0-2 against Qatar on Thursday, Bangladesh survived an onslaught at the hands of Qatar. Their confidence will have received a big boost.

Led by English coach Jamie Day, The Red and Green fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Afghanistan in the opener of the second round qualifiers and are the only team without a point in the group. In between the two qualification ties, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 2-0 in a friendly.

Head coach Jamie Day may stick to his preferred 4-4-2 formation with skipper Jamal Bhuyan at the pivotal central midfield role. Bhuiyan will have a lot on his shoulders, screening the two centrebacks Yeasin Khan and Riyadul Hasan. Nabib Ziban could be deployed as the lone striker.

Barring a win over Afghanistan in 2008, Bangladesh have not beaten any of the teams from their group but will be looking to catch India by surprise.
