The 2023 Summer Bash fixtures have been confirmed as the Championship’s showpiece events heads to York for the first time.

The LNER Community Stadium will host the Summer Bash on the Bank Holiday weekend of May-27-28.

The Minster city will be the third venue of the seventh Summer Bash. The event was held at Bloomfield Road in Blackpool for six seasons between 2015-2020. It moved to Headingley in 2022.

Tickets go on sale for the Summer Bash today and the Rugby Football League say demand is expected to be high for the 8,500-capacity venue.

Only two of the seven Championship games will be broadcast live by Viaplay Sports. Both of those fixtures are scheduled for the Saturday, which sees Featherstone take on York following a big-city clash between London and Toulouse.

The Summer Bash will be wrapped up on the Sunday by a Women’s Super League match between York and Warrington, meaning that a York team will be in action on each day of the weekend.

2023 Summer Bash fixtures:

Saturday, May 27

Widnes Vikings v Swinton Lions

Whitehaven v Barrow Raiders

London Broncos v Toulouse Olympique

Featherstone Rovers v York Knights

Sunday, May 28

Newcastle Thunder v Sheffield Eagles

Halifax Panthers v Batley Bulldogs

Keighley Cougars v Bradford Bulls

York Valkyrie v Warrington Wolves (Women’s Super League)

Summer Bash kick-off times are to be confirmed.

RFL boss on York hosting the Summer Bash

RFL chief commercial officer Mark Foster said: “The LNER Community Stadium and the city of York are exciting new venues for the Betfred Championship Summer Bash in 2023.

“York has been a key venue through the Rugby League World Cup, including staging a superb event for the Women’s semi-finals with a record rugby crowd of more than 7,000, and as a popular base for a number of teams.

“There will be a fresh feel to the Bash in 2023, with the return of Toulouse Olympique, Swinton Lions and Keighley Cougars whose derby match against Bradford Bulls promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend.

“We are also delighted to include a Betfred Women’s Super League fixture in the programme, reflecting York’s rapid progress in the competition in recent years; and also Warrington’s success in earning promotion to the top tier.”
