While cricketers are the actors on the scene, it is the commentators who paint the picture for the viewers sitting back home. It is the broadcasting team along with the commentators with the mic in hand who further glorify the experience of cricket watching.

These days, there is a general trend that sees a lot of retired cricketers taking up the job of a commentator. While it is justified for someone who has played the game to share his views in the commentary box, not every player ends up being the perfect man for the job.

However, in the current Indian setup, there are a few players who have an assured career in the commentary box after their retirement from the sport.

#1. Ravichandran Ashwin

One of the most astute minds in the Indian Test team, Ravichandran Ashwin is one such cricketer who studies the game very closely. He thinks a lot while bowling and loves to anticipate what goes through a player’s mind. For him, there couldn’t be a better alternate career than being a commentator once he hangs up his boots as a professional cricketer.

Even during the lockdown days, Ashwin has been phenomenal in hosting ex-players and a few broadcasters over his show at Instagram in ‘Reminisce with Ash’.

#2. Dinesh Kartik

In the past, Dinesh Karthik has expressed his desire to take up the job of a commentator once he calls it a day on his playing career. Karthik, who loves to put people on the spot, has a keen understanding of the game. He’s already taken up commentary as a job when he’s not playing cricket.

He’s a brilliant speaker and possess normally most traits that would require him to be a good speaker behind the mic. Even some of his teammates reckon that a career in commentary awaits him Dinesh post his retirement from the game.

#3. Jemimah Rodrigues

One of the most entertaining players in the women’s cricket team, Jemimah Rodrigues is one of the kinds where she can have a successful commentary career after she’s retired from cricket. She recently made her commentary debut and tweeted:

“I am super excited because today I’ll be making my debut in the com (commentary) box for the match against Manchester Originals vs… umm… London Spirits, sorry I need to do my homework well. So, I am super excited. I hope you guys are excited too and don’t judge me if I make some mistakes.”

The sole host of his interview show ‘Chahal TV’, Yuzvendra Chahal is gaining experience as an interviewer during his playing days. The Indian leg-spinner, who now conducts interviews for fun, can consider commentary as a viable option after he finishes with his cricket days.

Chahal loves to speak and even knows the how-tos about the game.

#5. KL Rahul

KL Rahul is one of the most fluent batsmen any cricket fan can watch. His batting skills, equipped with great wicketkeeping, has made him a regular in the Indian ODI and T20I team at least. Rahul’s voice is quite soothing to hear and he is always very analytic in the way he talks about his cricket or anyone else’s.

All these factors make him a top choice for becoming a commentator in the future, once he is retired from the sport. For now, fans would love to see him cream fast bowlers through covers, something which is known for.
