5 Facts About Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Latest Signing-Tim David

The Royal Challengers Bangalore announced their three latest additions for the second phase of the Indian Premier League 2021. The tournament resumes on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

Tim David, the Singaporean All-rounder will replace Fin Allen in the squad. He will be the first Singaporean player to play in the Indian Premier League. Tim has played in the Big Bash league, PSL, and T20 Blast in England.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore announced the all-rounder’s arrival through a post on their social media account.

They wrote, “ANNOUNCEMENT. Tim David is no stranger to the T20 format! After tasting success in T20 leagues around the world, hard-hitting batsman & a handy bowler – Tim David – replaces Finn Allen at RCB for the remainder of the season. #PlayBold #IPL2021 #NowAChallenger”

#5 Comes from a cricketing background

Tim David was born in Singapore in 1966. His father Rod David, who was an engineer by profession played cricket for Singapore in the year 1997. He then within a few years moved back to Australia with his family. Tim grew up watching his father, Rod play for the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club and followed in his footsteps to take up the sport.

#4 Tim David’s Early days as a cricketer

Tim started playing cricket at the age of eight in Australia. He played in the Northeast Premier League in England when he was 19 and was the leading run-getter for the year. After his brilliant performance in age-group cricket, Tim was selected to play for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. However, after plying his trade he Australia, Tim decided to move to Singapore, where he was eligible to play as the country of his birth.

#3 Tim David’s International career

Tim David made his International debut playing for Singapore against Qatar in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Final tournament in 2019. He played a fine hand, contributing 38 runs off 29 balls, including three boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 131.03. Tim David has played in 14 T20I matches, scoring 558 runs at an average of 46.50 with 92* being his highest score. He also has five wickets to his name in T20Is.

#2 Jointly holds the record for most catches in a T20I

Tim David jointly holds the record for most catches in a T20I match. He took four catches against Scotland ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019, dismissing the likes of Kyle Coetzer, Ollie Hairs, Calum MacLeod, and Safyaan Sharif. He also ran out Tom Sole for 11 in the innings, helping Singapore defend 168.

#1 Tim David’s stint with Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League

Tim David was picked up by the Lahore Qalandars as a replacement for Joe Burns in the Pakistan Super League 2021 season. He slammed 180 runs in six matches at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 166.66. His best knock came against the Peshawar Zalmi when he remained not out and smashed a 36-ball 64, leading his side to a match-winning total.
