5 Rangers priorities Philippe Clement must address as pressure piles up on Gers boss

It must feel like deja vu all over again for Rangers fans after a sluggish start to the season.

It was all happening quite similarly under Michael Beale this time last season with dropped points in the league allowing Celtic to build up an early lead in the Premiership. Philippe Clement was the saviour who came in and had them believing again and actually managed to salvage a proper title challenge.

But now he is no longer the messiah but a very naughty boy. That same old cycle seems to be repeating itself at Ibrox with some turning on the manager and thinking it is time for another change. But is it retrievable for the Belgian? It would seem far to early to say otherwise and there way be ways for him to salvage things...

Get more out of signings

There has been criticism of Rangers' recruitment and the options they have been left with. But the fact is Clement now has the squad he has and he must now try to get more out of them. Connor Barron, recruited for a minimal fee yet to be set from Aberdeen, has probably been the best signing so far. Vaclav Cerny has shown flashed but the boss must now get him doing it consistently and also get more from the likes of Robin Propper, Jefte and Hamza Igamane. Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Nedim Bajarami will also need bedded in.

The defence

The defensive issues were there for all to see in the Celtic defeat. Ridvan Yilmaz's injury isn't helping and they haven't yet had a settled back four. But captain James Tavernier and Jefte need to be better defensively while finding a settled centre-back pairing would also help.

Viaplay Cup progression

The League Cup was a big help for the manager last year as a first piece of silverware got the fans on side. Winning another would certainly help get rid of at least some of the negativity and perhaps reassure some of the supporters that he can build a winning side. First things first is the quarter-final against Dundee and that won't be easy.

Fortress Ibrox

That game is set to be at Ibrox and it's a chance to get the fans back on side. If the Rangers team can start the game by giving the crowd something to cheer, they can generate some good feeling again and we've all seen what a bouncing Ibrox can do for the team.

Europa League

its looking unlikely Celtic can be caught in the league so the Europa League holds plenty of importance just like the domestic cups. It recent years, Rangers have managed some amazing nights on that stage and that has built some credit in the bank for different managers.
