After 5-Year Suspension, Nick Diaz Trying to Figure Out How to Make a Living
The Nevada Athletic Commission dropped the hammer on former UFC welterweight contender Nick Diaz on Sept. 14, suspending the 32-year-old for five years and fining him $165,000 for testing positive for marijuana following his UFC 183 bout with Anderson Silva.
“It's upsetting,” Diaz told TMZ Sports.

Diaz has been fighting professionally since he was 18, and now he faces an uncertain future.
“I held off on having kids and getting married so I could fight. I gave my life to this. I am a fighter. It's what I am. A lot of guys have to worry about what their wives and kids think, I don't. All my attention goes towards fighting, and now I don't know if I can fight. They've taken it away from me,” he said. “I have to figure out how to make a living.”
Without the ability to make a living fighting, Diaz is concerned about his financial future, but remains hopeful that he’ll be able to compete outside of Nevada.
“I'm just trying to make ends meet,” he said. “I've been hearing other states' athletic commissions are angry about the ruling, so hopefully I'll be able to fight in those states.”
