6 Hearts players who could make transfer exits as Jambos sweat on Lawrence Shankland

As ever heading into a transfer window, the futures of many players will be hanging in the balance. It's no different at Hearts.

There is one player in particular fans, manager Steven Naismith and Jambos officials will be desperate to hang onto after Lawrence Shankland plundered 31 goals in his second season in maroon. The 28-year-old heads off to the Euros with Scotland this summer and could earn more admirers if he can find the net.

On top of that, there are plenty of fringe men who may face the chop, or even take the decision themselves to move on for the sake of their careers. Naismith has already added three players - James Penrice, Yan Dhanda and Blair Spittal - on pre-contracts and space may need to be made for more signings.

Here, Football Scotland takes a look at six players who could be on the move from Gorgie.

Alex Cochrane

The left-sided defender has just a year left on his deal and the indications are that it's not likely he'll sign another one. That means if the Jambos want to make any cash from the former Brighton man they would have to sell in this window. There has been interest from Italy and England and the Jambos believe they can fetch up to £2million for the 24-year-old.

Toby Sibbick

Has been marginalised more and more at Tynecastle as time goes on. There is clearly a capable player in there but the errors creep in too often and that's why he has never fully convinced. There has previously been interest from Fleetwood and Forest Green and now would seem like a good time for a parting of the ways, especially with Lewis Neilson coming back from a loan at Partick Thistle.

Lewis Neilson (loan)

Having said that, might it be an idea for the 21-year-old to experience another loan, perhaps this time in the Premiership? The former Dundee United played a lot of games and impressed for Thistle last season but perhaps could do with more top flight experience before establishing himself at Hearts, where manager Steven Naismith definitely sees he has a future.

Jorge Grant

Has been mentioned as a possible exit for most of his Hearts career. Was told at the start of this season that he could move on if he found a new team but actually went on to impress Naismith and played far more often last season, including in most of the big games. But there has always been interest from down south and with Yan Dhanda and Blair Spittal coming in as attacking midfielders, an exit shouldn't be ruled out.

Lawrence Shankland

Hearts fans look away now. This is the one they do NOT want to see happening but there is no getting away from the fact that a man who hit 31 goals last season and is off to the Euros with his contract could well attract interest. It would take a pretty penny to prise him away from Tynecastle though.

Kyosuke Tagawa

Tagawa's first campaign in Scotland was one of toil until two very well taken goals in the two very last games offered some hope. However, there was interest from Germany and Portugal in January and if the Jambos were able to make their money back, or even a profit, you'd have to think they might be interested in doing so.
