6 Nations exclusive: Scotland skipper Lisa Martin's third blog for Yahoo Sport

Scotland Women’s captain Lisa Martin reflects on the strong showing against Wales in round two of the Women’s Six Nations.

Scotland captain Lisa Martin

We arrived in Wales with belief and confidence following our much-improved performance against England at home. We piled on the pressure right from the get-go and we were first to put points on the board.

At the final whistle I was gutted we hadn’t come away with a win as we competed strongly, both in attack and defence, against what was a very tough team.

Coming away with ten points, through the boot of Lana Skeldon and a Megan Gaffney try, really lifted the squad, who are working hard both on and off the pitch to build on our performances.

There are still moments when our discipline is gifting the opposition points in the wrong areas, but this is something we can control and eradicate.

There’s no quick fix and we can’t expect everything to change overnight. We’re on a journey and the players and management are committed to realising the potential of this squad.

It’s a privilege to represent our country and we spoke before the game about doing the Scotland jersey proud. There’s no doubting the effort and desire that was evident in the 80 minutes against Wales and our Six Nations campaign so far as we strive to be the best we can be.

Following a break this weekend, we’re back on the road to play Italy near Bologna on Sunday 28 February. Travel is part and parcel of this tournament and it’s something that the squad is getting used to.

After watching Italy push England in round two, we’re expecting strong competition and an expansive brand of rugby involving their dangerous wingers and full-back.

Combining our contact and breakdown skills from the England game with our attack against Wales, we believe we can put in another solid performance.

We’re taking each game as it comes though and focusing on the aspects we can control, while also dictating the shape and territory.

It’s going to be another exciting game and we can’t wait to get back in camp so we can continue to raise the standards and keep moving forward as a team.
