It's the time of year when clubs are wheeling and dealing up and down the country as they piece together their squads ahead of the new campaign.

While cash-rich teams in England, Spain and Germany have millions of pounds at their disposal, the same can't be said for the Scottish Premiership. Aside from Celtic and Rangers, it'd be a major surprise to see anyone shell out seven figures on a new signing. We all know the SPFL isn't exactly awash with cash so managers will be exploring all kinds of ways to improve their group of players in the coming weeks.

Some will use their contracts to poach some loan signings while others may be tempted to look at the free agent market. Here, Football Scotland picks out nine out-of-contract players who are still unattached.

Jon McLaughlin

The 36-year-old was released after four years at Rangers. Didn't make a single appearance under Philippe Clement but could still be a safe pair of hands for another Premiership side.

Bevis Mugabi

Motherwell released their longest-serving player at the end of last season after 125 appearances for the club. At 29, the Uganda international has plenty of experience and could be a valuable addition for a Premiership rival.

Ryan Jack

Jack's injury record caught up with him in the end at Rangers. Now 32, he's still got plenty to offer otherwise Steve Clarke wouldn't have included him in his Euro 2024 squad. Dundee are mong the clubs to have been linked.

Emiliano Marcondes

The Dane was a marquee loan signing from Bournemouth in January and while he couldn't inspire Hibs to a top-six finish, he still showed glimpses of quality at Easter Road. Not many Scottish clubs would be able to afford his wage demands, though.

Kelle Roos

The giant Dutchman impressed in his debut season at Pittodrie but was prone to mistakes. Decided to move on at the end of his two-year contract this summer but has yet to find a new club.

Peter Haring

The Austrian midfielder was released by Hearts after six years in Gorgie. The 31-year-old was a loyal servant but struggled with injuries in his final couple of seasons.

Adam Le Fondre

Journeyman Le Fondre is on the lookout for a new club after just one year at Easter Road. At 37, the ex-Bolton and Reading striker's best days are behind him but he has no plans to retire. Still a decent option, even from the bench, for clubs at the lower end of the league.

Junior Hoilett

A rare success from Neil Warnock's short reign in charge, Aberdeen remain locked in talks with the Canadian international over a new deal. He contributed NINE assists and two goals in just 15 appearances for the Dons.

Kemar Roofe

Who knows how Roofe's Rangers career would've panned out had it not been for his injury record. The 31-year-old struggled to stay fit at Ibrox and remains unattached following the expiry of his contract.
