8 wear-again items to add to your festival packing list

The last year has been a fallow one for festival-goers. But as Wilderness kicks off tonight and Field Day and We Out Here are slated for the next few weeks, partying in a field is officially back on the cards.

This, however, does not mean you should reach for the denim shorts, sequin top and face glitter. Instead, why not invest in some key field party purchases that you’ll wear again when you’re back in the city?

These are the ultimate wear-again pieces.

The jazzy jeans

If hot-pants and minis aren’t really your thing, might I suggest you swerve the baggy tie-dye hippie troos in favour of some patterned jeans, a trend that’s going to be everywhere come autumn. Try Ganni’s brilliant zebra print flares (£175, ganni.com) or one of the many marbled and newspaper-printed options on offer at Reformation.

The rectangular shades

If there’s a style of sunglasses that’s defining summer ’21 it’s sharp rectangular silhouettes. Opt for bright frames and tinted lenses for festive festi-feel.

The city-ready anorak

British festivals inevitably mean dancefloor rain showers, but rather than go for a panicked disposable poncho purchase, why not pack a rain coat you like enough to also wear on your wet and windy walk to the tube?

The sparkly swimsuit

 (Oseree)
(Oseree)

It might sound like it belongs on a hot holiday packing list, but a sparkly swimsuit is actually a multifunctional festival staple; perfect for sunny lake swims, and excellent worn with denim shorts for disco dancefloor vibes. You can even re-wear it on the beach… when you finally get to one.

A grown-up bucket hat

(Christopher Kane)

With hands-free sun and rain protection a festival must-have, it’s easy to see why the bucket hat has become a perennial field party favourite. Opt for Christopher Kane’s London-appropriate ‘More Joy’ nylon iteration for maximum cost-per-wear.

The Ganni wellies

(Ganni)

Traditional wellies are not great for throwing shapes, and hiking boots are useless when it’s a literal mud bath. Ganni’s rubber city boots are however the perfect in-between, and they’ll work with tights and dresses when you emerge back into reality.

The metallic slip dress

 (Calvin Klein)
(Calvin Klein)

What do Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Dua Lipa all have in common? Aside from their obvious fame and beauty, they’ve all rocked a silver slip dress to a festival. And I’d suggest you might consider doing the same. Calvin Klein have a fabulous satin number on sale for £66 that would look as good paired with stomper boots as it would strappy heels.

The water bottle holder

 (Burberry)
(Burberry)

With our wallets on our phones and dancefloor smoking a relic of the past, that sinfully ugly bumbag of fest-eryear really isn’t required. Instead, invest in a statement water bottle holder to stay stylishly hydrated at all times. Ahem… no-one said you can’t fill it with wine.
