A Suns-Cardinals championship combo would win a huge parlay for one bettor

The Phoenix Suns have never won an NBA championship.

The Arizona Cardinals franchise has won an NFL championship. But that came back in 1947, when the team was still in Chicago. It's the longest active title drought in American professional sports.

One bettor is hoping both streaks end next year.

At BetMGM, an interesting parlay was placed. A bettor parlayed the Cardinals and Suns to win championships. A $1,000 bet would win $113,000.

Despite the history of both franchises, it's not the craziest bet.

Cardinals, Suns both red hot

The Cardinals have been perhaps the NFL's most surprising team. They deserve to be the No. 1 team in any power rankings. They are 9-2 and have gotten through some key injuries to keep the best record in the NFL. With Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins returning soon, there's no reason to believe the Cardinals can't be the NFC's No. 1 seed.

The Suns came close to a championship last season, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals after having a 2-0 series lead. The start to this season was a little uneven, but then the Suns took off. They have won 16 in a row and are one game behind the Golden State Warriors for the best record in the NBA. They can tie Golden State for the top spot when they face the Warriors on Tuesday night.

So you have a team that has the best record in the NFL and another that has won 16 in a row and is 17-3 to start the NBA season. And it could pay off at 113-to-1 odds on a $1,000 bet. Not bad.

Arizona teams haven't had much championship success

Of course, a lot has to go right to hit any 113-to-1 bet.

The Cardinals need to get healthy and then navigate a fairly tough schedule the rest of the season. It's a wide-open NFC with a lot of capable teams, and the Cardinals could have to win four tough games in a row to win a championship if they don't get the No. 1 seed and a bye.

The Suns know how hard the postseason can be. Everything lined up right for them last season in terms of other teams dealing with key injuries on their way to the NBA Finals. They had a 2-0 lead over the Bucks. And a championship still didn't happen. It takes a lot of luck to win 16 NBA playoff games in a postseason.

Assuming the bettor is an Arizona fan (BetMGM is up and running in Arizona as of September), it's a fun bet to track. If Arizona wins its first Super Bowl, it'll get really interesting for the Suns playoff run.
