Mikel Arteta predicts that Arsenal fans will "love" Aaron Ramsdale once he completes a £24million transfer from Sheffield United.

Having already signed Martin Odegaard on Friday, Arsenal are also closing in on a deal for Blades goalkeeper Ramsdale, who has undergone a medical.

The England international is expected to sign in the next 48 hours for £24m with a potential for £6m more in add-ons, but he he has already come under fire from some Arsenal fans online.

Arteta, however, says supporters will “love” Ramsdale once they see him in action.

“I think they (fans) are going to love his personality, his character, the quality that he has as a goalkeeper and what he’s going to offer. I think he’s a young goalkeeper, but he’s got huge, huge potential.

“Aaron is a really, really talented young goalkeeper with already huge experience and an international for England, and he’s going to bring competition, which is what we want, to create healthy competition, quality competition in every position. We needed a goalkeeper there and he’s the ideal option.

“It’s what we want [having two good goalkeepers] and it’s always been the case at this football club, it’s nothing new. We’re going to have two different profiles at two different stages in their career.”

Regarding Odegaard’s arrival, Arteta added: “A lot of things that he brought last season, he made us better, we needed more options and alternatives for creativity.

“He is still a really young man but he has huge experiences in clubs already and has unique talents for the way we want to play so I am really pleased the club have made the effort.”
