Aaron Rodgers kept Jordan Love in the loop on Rodgers' status during the offseason
Aaron Rodgers wants to prevent Jordan Love from going through what Rodgers experienced his first couple years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. With Rodgers' status in limbo all offseason, Rodgers reached out to Love to keep him in the loop on Rodgers' situation, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Rodgers has been in that situation before. When he entered the league, Brett Favre was still putting up excellent numbers with the Packers. Favre stuck around with the team longer than expected. He even retired and then unretired over the course of an offseason, which left Rodgers in a tough spot.
Rodgers didn't want Love to experience the same thing with Rodgers' status in limbo, according to ESPN.
"And then I just reached out; I reached out a number of times [to] check on him [and] see how he's doing," Rodgers said. "I didn't hold things from him. I let him know where I was at mentally and what I was thinking about. And hopefully he appreciated that.
"I just felt that's what I would want in that situation, just to hear from the guy. And also, there's a love and an appreciation and a friendship there, just like it was with me and Brett. So I wanted to make sure I checked in with him and let him know I was thinking about him."
While the situation with Favre was different, Rodgers explained it was tough to take all the offseason quarterback reps with the team knowing he would have to shift back to the bench once Favre returned. That's exactly what happened with Love this offseason.
Despite those early seasons, Rodgers and Favre have a better relationship today. Rodgers attended Favre's Hall of Fame ceremony in 2016 and has spoken kindly about Favre in recent years.

Things seem fine between Love and Rodgers, but that's not the case with Rodgers and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. Rodgers and Gutekunst have spoken during practices, but Rodgers called their relationship "a work in progress."
Gutekunst was at the center of Rodgers' ire with the team during the offseason. Rodgers reportedly wanted the team to fire Gutekunst and allegedly mocked Gutekunst in texts with teammates.
Rodgers returning to the team leaves open the door for that relationship to improve, and Rodgers admitted the conversations he's had with Gutekunst have been "positive" thus far.
That's good for 2021, but things look murky after that. Rodgers restructured his deal with the Packers in July. As part of the deal, the team will have to address Rodgers' situation again following the 2022 season.
It's possible that leads to contract extension, but all signs point to 2021 being Rodgers' final season with the Packers.
