Aberdeen to face Elgin City in Scottish Cup fourth round as Cove Rangers and Fraserburgh learn their fates

Aberdeen will face Elgin City in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup as the Premiership sides learned their fates on Monday night.

The top flight sides enter the competition after a thrilling third round that saw some big wins for teams up and down the country, including two from the north-east.

Cove Rangers downed Inverness Caledonian Thistle to earn a home tie against Forfar Athletic with the League One side hoping to churn out an impressive cup run.

Fraserburgh however face an almighty task as they travel to Rangers after overcoming Annan Athletic, with the Highland League side handed a shot at a massive cup upset against last season's runners up.

Jimmy Thelin's Dons will be looking to kickstart their run to Hampden in style having reached the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup before their defeat to Celtic.

It's been 34 years since Aberdeen won the Scottish Cup, and Thelin will be eager to become the first Reds manager since the co-manager duo of Alex Smith and Jocky Scott to lift the world's oldest trophy.

Holders Celtic host Kilmarnock as former Dons boss Derek McInnes once again meets the Hoops in the Scottish Cup while there's a Dundee derby at Dens Park among the standout ties.

Ties are due to be played on the weekend of Saturday, January 18.
