AC Milan 1-0 Tottenham LIVE! Champions League League result, match stream, latest updates today
AC Milan took a step towards their first Champions League quarter-final appearance for 11 years as Brahim Diaz's goal gave the Italians a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their last-16 first leg at the San Siro on Tuesday. The Spaniard headed in a rebound in the seventh minute after a superb double save by Tottenham's second-choice keeper Fraser Forster and the seven-time winners kept the Londoners at bay.
Spurs, weakened by injuries and suspensions, responded positively in the first half to dominate possession but were unable to seriously worry the hosts. Milan should then have increased their advantage after the break with substitutes Charles De Ketelaere and Junior Messias both wasting glorious headed chances.
Tottenham sent on Brazil forward Richarlison for the last 20 minutes and, while they were unable to avoid a first-ever defeat by Milan, they will head home still hopeful of turning the tie around and reaching the last eight. Read back the game below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Dan Kilpatrick at San Siro.

Here are our player ratings.
Full-time
22:00 , Alex Young
97min: That’s it! A big win for Milan, if not by scoreline but for momentum.
21:58 , Alex Young
96min: Nothing doing. That should be that.
21:58 , Alex Young
95min: Last chance saloon for Spurs as Kane wins a free kick on the right-hand side...
21:53 , Alex Young
90min: SIX minutes added on.
21:51 , Alex Young
89min: Spurs still pushing but just can’t work a decent opening. Milan now waiting for chances on the counter, which was coming their way.
21:46 , Alex Young
85min: Spurs need a goal, and quickly, so Davies has a go from 35 yards which ends up an equal distance wide.
21:44 , Alex Young
82min: Another sitter? This time it’s Tottenham as Dier is found with a free header from a corner but can only head into the ground.
21:43 , Alex Young
81min: Milan miss two sitters in as many minutes.
First Giroud and then Thiaw can't hit the target with the goal gaping!
Danjuma and Davies replace Son and Lenglet.
21:40 , Alex Young
80min: Giroud is INCHES away from making it 2-0 on the night.
It's a poor header.
21:39 , Alex Young
77min: Couple changes for Milan. Salemaeakers and Diaz make way for De Ketelaere and Messias.
21:37 , Alex Young
75min: Skipp does brilliantly to dig out a cross on the byline and finds Richarlison for a first-time shot inside the area. He probably could have taken a touch first as it’s blocked by the first defender.
21:32 , Alex Young
71min: Kulusevski makes way.
21:31 , Alex Young
70min: Here comes Richarlison with 20 minutes to play.
21:29 , Alex Young
67min: Milan break through Leao and Giroud is in acres and screaming for the ball, but his team-mate doesn’t spot him so Spurs are able to clear.
21:26 , Alex Young
64min: Dier is booked for a foul on Giroud, which looks harsh at first look, He is now suspended for the second leg.
21:24 , Alex Young
62min: Back underway and Spurs win a corner. I’m not convinced the Milan keeper will continue for much longer. He’s limping a tad.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Siro
21:22 , Alex Young
We’ve reached the hour-mark and Conte will surely be thinking about subs. Richarlison, whose only Spurs goals have come in this competition, and Arnaut Danjuma, named in last year’s Champions League team of the season, are the obvious candidates to come on.
21:21 , Alex Young
59min: Son floats to the back post, Milan clear as far as Kulusevski, whose scuffed shot is of no concern.
Lenglet pushes the keeper out of play as he catches the ball, and he’ll now need some treatment.
21:19 , Alex Young
57min: Richarlison is seen warming up on the sidelines, you do wonder what he needs to do to start with Son out of form. Kane wins a free kick around 25 yards out.
21:16 , Alex Young
54min: Milan posing plenty of threat on the counter, as usual, especially with Leao up against the now-booked Romero.
Sarr required, and not for the first time, to make a timely tackle.
21:13 , Alex Young
51min: A long delay as Tonali is checked on, but he’s fine. The free kick comes to nothing.
21:12 , Alex Young
48min: Romero is booked for a flying challenge in on Tonali. He can have no complaints but does, obviously.
21:10 , Alex Young
48min: Romero is booked for a flying challenge in on Tonali. He can have no complaints but does, obviously.
21:07 , Alex Young
46min: We’re back underway. No changes for either team.
21:04 , Alex Young
The teams are on their way back out.
Dan’s thoughts
20:56 , Alex Young
Spurs trail after another frustrating defensive lapse and, in truth, have offered little in Milan’s box, aside from set pieces. But elements of their play have been encouraging, with youngsters Skipp and Sarr holding their own and Kane clearly up for it. They need more from Kulusevski and Son.
Half-time!
20:51 , Alex Young
49min: There’s the whistle.
20:50 , Alex Young
48min: Final chance of the half for Spurs and it’s another Son free kick... but Romero is offside.
20:47 , Alex Young
45min: Best chance of the game for Spurs as Son runs through on goal, sees his shot saved, and then Kane can’t bury the rebound... before the offside flag is raised.
20:45 , Alex Young
44min: Approaching half-time and Milan are more comfortable than 10 minutes ago.
20:44 , Alex Young
41min: Perisic’s corner delivery is high and deep and drops into the keeper’s hands.
20:43 , Alex Young
39min: Fantastic work from Emerson to whip in a cross towards Son, having been fouled about three times in the build-up.
Son wins a corner.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Siro
20:33 , Alex Young
Any fears of Spurs being overrun (even more than usual) in midfield have proved unfounded. They are having the lion’s share of the ball and looking dangerous from set pieces. Sarr is clearly a real prospect. Perhaps he will be the silver lining to Spurs’ midfield injury crisis.
20:31 , Alex Young
31min: Kane is down as he gets an elbow to the face inside the area. He’ll be fine but that looked painful.
20:29 , Alex Young
29min: Spurs starting to a get a foothold as we approach the half-hour mark. Milan, though, happy to soak up the pressure and counter, for now.
20:27 , Alex Young
26min: The corner is easily cleared but Emerson quickly wins back possession and has a pop from 25 yards which is straight at the keeper.
20:26 , Alex Young
25min: Another Son free kick, another drilled delivery, this time Milan clear for a corner with Kane lurking.
20:24 , Alex Young
23min: Kane gets on the ball for the first time and almost finds Kulusevski with a neat through ball, which is cleared in the nick of time.
It’s been a good response from Spurs, to be fair.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Siro
20:22 , Alex Young
Conte should be quietly encouraged by the start made by Skipp and Sarr, who are both recycling the ball well.
Whether they can create enough or hold their own when Milan have possession remains to be seen but neither looks out of place so far.
20:20 , Alex Young
19min: Milan will be happy with how they are containing Spurs at the moment, but Kulusevski is plenty lively on the right.
20:18 , Alex Young
17min: Another deep free kick, another drilled Son delivery but this time Milan head clear.
Both fine crosses from Son.
20:16 , Alex Young
15min: Spurs work it well inside the area with Emerson and Kulusevski, but Milan are eventually able to clear. Leao looks so up for this.
20:14 , Alex Young
13min: First attempt on target from Spurs as Dier gets to Son’s floating free-kick delivery, but it’s straight at the keeper.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Siro
20:12 , Alex Young
It took Milan just six-and-a-half minutes to carve through Spurs and open the scoring, in spite of Fraser Forster’s best efforts. On that evidence, Spurs have come here with the defensive organisation of the Leicester defeat, rather than the resilience of the win over Man City.
GOAL!
20:09 , Alex Young
7min: Romero is outmuscled in the build-up and Diaz eventually bundles the ball home!
Forster makes a miracle save but Milan were first to the rebound.
20:07 , Alex Young
6min: Skipp and Sarr already being outnumbered in midfield as Lenglet steps up and gives away a free kick.
20:05 , Alex Young
4min: Early corner to Spurs but it’s wasted as Kulusevski can’t find Emerson and the ball runs out of play.
20:04 , Alex Young
3min: It comes to nothing but as Son tries to run clear, he gets tackled and Milan are back on the ball.
20:03 , Alex Young
2min: A hack from behind from Emerson sees Leao collapse to the deck. Clumsy free kick around 35 yards out and lucky not to be booked.
Kick-off!
20:02 , Alex Young
1min: Here we go!
20:00 , Alex Young
A reminder that both Dier and Lenglet are each one booking away from missing the second leg.
19:58 , Alex Young
Here they come. Conte and Pioli share a big hug on the touchline.
19:56 , Alex Young
Antonio Conte is not a popular man with AC Milan fans, you will not be surprised to hear.
Deafening boos as his name is read out. Ivan Perisic another target of their ire.
Kick-off in five.
19:53 , Alex Young
A familiar face is in the Spurs away end tonight in the form of former midfielder Sandro!
He enjoyed a coming-of-age performance at the San Siro 12 years ago, as Peter Crouch scored the only goal, and now he’s a punter amongst the fans.
Me, Sandro and my Dad.
This is iconic.
Special moment.
Scored some bangers. What a man.

Conte on Sarr and Skipp
19:47 , Alex Young
He has faith.
It’s a big night for both, young players but good prospects.
Now it’s their turn, we trust them a lot, which they feel, and we expect to see a good performance.

Milan fans have a long memory.
Loud boos for Fraser Forster as he comes out to warm up. The GK has played against Milan in the Champions League at the San Siro before - in a 2-0 Celtic defeat in Sept 2013

‘Champions League will lift Milan'
19:23 , Alex Young
Milan ended a seven-game winless run in all competitions with a 1-0 home victory over Torino on Friday and coach Stefano Pioli hopes the Champions League will lift his side.
"It's inevitable we suffered those negative results and the victory over Torino boosted our morale," he said on Milan TV. "Aside from that, when the Champions League comes along, it's the Champions League. It doesn't matter what form you're in.
"If we're playing at this level, it means that we are strong and so are Tottenham, so we must try to do better starting from tomorrow night."
19:03 , Alex Young
Antonio Conte is all smiles back in Italy.
As expected, he picks Sarr and Skipp to start in midfield. Emerson is preferred to Porro at right-back as Lenglet starts over Davies at left centre-back.

Conte on injuries
18:31 , Alex Young
Antonio Conte says Tottenham cannot afford to suffer any more injuries.
Along with Lloris, Bentancur and Bissouma, Ryan Sessegnon is also out. Skipp and Sarr will start tonight for the first time in the Champions League.
"In the last seven days we have had four serious injuries. For this season I think staying together is very important and trying in this kind of situation to create the right spirit," Conte told reporters.
"We're talking about two young players, Skippy and Pape Sarr. (It's) their first game in the Champions League, they are very young, 22 and 20 years old," Conte said.
"Especially for this reason we have to be good to help them overcome the emotion, and then we trust them."
Stage is set
18:14 , Alex Young
It’s some night at the San Siro. Few beat it.
Score prediction
18:08 , Alex Young
Neither teams are in particularly good form but Spurs have more quality and experience, which should see them build a narrow first-leg lead.
A 2-1 win to Spurs.
Skipp and Sarr to start
17:53 , Alex Young
Spurs are also without their first-choice goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris, who will also miss the second leg, meaning Fraser Forster will deputise again.
Also missing are Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and the suspended Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, so the inexperienced pair of Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp will start.
Again it's positive news in defence as Cristian Romero is available again.
Fikayo back for Milan
17:45 , Alex Young
First-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan remains out for AC Milan but could return for the second leg. The same could be the same for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who returned to the bench on Friday but failed to get on the bench. He is hoping for some minutes tonight.
In better news for Milan, former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is expected to be fit enough to start.
