Acting Roles Play Second Fiddle to Ronda Rousey’s UFC Career
When opportunity knocks at UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s door, she welcomes it in like an old friend.
The 28-year-old Californian has won an Olympic Bronze medal in Judo. She’s won the Strikeforce and UFC bantamweight titles. She’s won an ESPY. She’s been in popular movies and appeared in ESPN’s The Body Issue. She’s been ranked in Maxim magazine’s Hot 100. If she drank Dos Equis, she might be the most interesting woman in the world.
With opportunity flying at her faster than punches inside the cage, Rousey hasn’t forgotten what made her famous.
“As for the movie career; I’m only in movies because I fight, so fighting is always the first priority,” said Rousey during a media press conference in Brazil.

Following her 14-second win over Cat Zingano at UFC 184 in her last outing, Rousey revealed that she’d be taking a brief break to film a movie before stepping back inside the octagon.
Rousey will star alongside “The Raid” and upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII” actor Iko Uwais in the film “Mile 22,” which is being produced by Peter Berg. The film is an action-thriller that centers on the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian policeman who are forced to work together.
Rousey is scheduled to defend her title against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 1. Filming on “Mile 22” is set to begin in May.
“I don’t move fights around for movies. I move movies around for fights,” said the undefeated world champion. “I asked for this fight in August, and movies will just have to make way for it. And that’s it.”
Rousey made her big screen debut last summer in “The Expendables 3″ and appears in this year’s “Furious 7″ and “Entourage.” She is also attached to the Warner Bros. adaptation of “The Athena Project.”
