Ada boys edge Tecumseh in home dual

Jan. 18—The Ada High Wrestling team got early victories from Kaden Laviell, Jace Davis and Ryan Gaches and needed every single point in a slim 39-36 win over Tecumseh in a home dual Tuesday night inside the Cougar Activity Center.

It was the start of a hectic stretch for the Ada wrestling team.

"We were just glad to get the dual in with the weather the way it's been," said Ada head coach Kyle Bohannon. "Everyone is about to wrestle about 20 matches over the next week. We're about to get busy."

The Cougars travel to the District 8 Dual at McAlester today and will meet the host Buffs in the first matchup at noon. Ada will battle Grove at 3 p.m. in Round 3, face Shawnee at 4:30 p.m. in Round 4 and square off against Durant at 6 p.m. in Round 5.

Ada will then head to the Skiatook Tournament on Friday before traveling to Chickasha for a three-way dual with the host Fightin' Chicks and Altus on Monday, Jan. 22.

The Cougars will finally return home on Tuesday, Jan. 23 when Carl Albert visits the Ada Junior High West Gym and Ada will host Plainview on Jan. 25 for Senior Night inside the Cougar Activity Center.

In girls' action Tuesday night, the Lady Cougars won three of four matches against Tecumseh.

BOYS

Ada 39, Tecumseh 36

Ada junior Kaden Lavielle got the Cougars off on the right foot, pinning Hadyen Emro of Tecumseh at the 1:38 mark of the first period of the 113-pound match.

Freshman Jace Davis outlasted Tecumseh foe Carter Hadsall 6-4 at 126 pounds.

Ada freshman Ryan Gaches was in a tight 132-pound match with THS grappler Braedyn Collier — the match was tied at 4-4 late in the opening period — before securing a pinfall victory with just 10.6 ticks left on the clock.

At that point, the Cougars led 21-0.

The Savages reeled off five straight wins — including two by forfeit — to surge to a 30-21 lead.

However, Ada snagged the victory by getting forfeit victories from Jagger Caldwell (175 pounds), Cord Coffee (215 pounds) and Jacob Thomas (heavyweight) in three of the final four matches.

GIRLS

Ada 3, Tecumseh 1

There were only four matches that made the mat in the girls' showdown.

EllaBabe Fisher got Ada started off on a strong note in the 105-pound matchup. After building a 7-0 lead against Vivian Hayes of Tecumseh, Fisher got the pin at the 42.8 mark of the first period.

Reilly Vietzke of Ada pinned Lizzy Hernandez of Tecumseh at the 1:41 mark of the first period of the 115-pound match.

Ada sophomore Makenzi Burden battled Tecumseh's Zarijah Masquas to a first-quarter draw in the 155-pound match before the Savage grappler earned a pin at the 1:48 mark of the second period.

Ada junior Natalia Palma made short work of Tecumseh's Lily Washbam in the 170-pound match, securing a pinfall victory at the 1:47 mark of the opening frame.
