Ada, Byng teams headed to Bama

Mar. 9—The Ada and Byng High School baseball teams are headed to Alabama next week for spring break.

The Cougars and Pirates will be part of the Gulf Coast Classic 1 scheduled for March 11-14 in Alabama. The headquarters will be Gulf Shores but a number of Alabama schools will host games throughout the area.


Coach Shane Coker's club will open play at 9 a.m. Monday with a doubleheader at Orange Beach High School. The Cougars will face Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to kick off tournament play and will battle New Hope, Mississippi at 11:30 a.m.

Ada will tangle with the home team at Spanish Fort High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Cougars are scheduled to meet Bob Jones at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gulf Shores Sportsplex.


The Byng team will open tournament play against host Robertsdale, Alabama, at 7 p.m. Monday.

Coach Shawn Streater's bunch will return to Robertsdale on Tuesday, facing Westminster Christian Academy (Georgia) at 11:30 a.m.

The Pirates will play in a Wednesday doubleheader at Elberta High School. Byng will battle Ground Academy Tennessee at 9 a.m. and Tuscaloosa Academy at 11:30 a.m.

The Top 4 teams at the event will square off in semifinal contests at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. A championship contest is set for 1:30 p.m. a Gulf Shores.
