Feb. 9—TUTTLE — The Ada High School boys basketball team got off to a good start and then coasted past Tuttle 73-59 in a Tuesday night road game.
The Cougars, ranked No. 9 in Class 4A, improved to 15-6 on the year, while the Tigers dropped to 12-10.
Coach Kyle Caufield's club is back at home tonight, hosting Fort Gibson inside the Cougar Activity Center. Ada will wrap up the regular season Monday against Seminole.
Ada 73, Tuttle 59
Ada built a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and then outscored Tuttle 23-18 in the second period to grab a 39-24 halftime lead.
Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter before Tuttle won the final frame 24-21.
Devon MacCollister led the Ada offense with 20 points and hit one 3-pointer. Caron Richardson also scored 20 points, a career-high total for the talented sophomore. Keith Cook followed with 17 points. Richardson and Cook made three 3-point shots apiece.
Richie Overcash led the way for the Tiers with a game-high 24 points. He made one 3-pointer. Chad Everett hit two triples and scored 12 points for Tuttle and Gabe Avelar chipped in 11. Jackson Nix contributed 10 points to Tuttle's balanced offense.
The Ada boys were money from the free-throw line, sinking 14-of-15 attempts. MacCollister led that effort, going 7-of-8 from the line. Tuttle also shot free throws well, making 12-of-14 tries.
Ada and Tuttle will meet again in Class 4A District Tournament action next week.
