Ada girls wrap up tournament title

Mar. 12—The Ada High School girl's tennis team defended their home turf Friday at the Ada Tennis Center.

The Lady Cougars won the Ada Tournament on Saturday behind a pair of championship runs in doubles. Ada finished with 59 team points with private school power Casady finishing second at 50. There was a three-way tie for third place between Christian Heritage Academy, Duncan and Norman North. All three squads ended up with 44 points each.

The Byng Lady Pirates finished eighth in the team standings with 35 points, just behind Carl Albert which compiled 38 points.

The boys' portion of the Ada Tournament got started Friday morning but was rained out midway through the second round of matches.

Both Ada squads are now off until competing in the Byng/Chisholm Trail Triangle on March 23 in Ardmore. The Ada boys then travel to the Crossings Christian Tournament on March 25 and the Lady Cougars compete in the Crossing Christian Tournament on March 26.

GIRLS

The Ada No. 1 Doubles squad of Jessi Bolin and Zoey Brown took down Norman North's Kaitlyn Bays and Sierra Hill 7-6, 6-2 in the championship match.

Ada's Taylor Cook and Jerzie O'Neal captured the No. 2 Doubles title with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Gracie Thiebaud and Emersen Villagrana of Ducan in the title match.

In the No. 2 Singles draw, sophomore Kylee Witt finished second after dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Casady's Lillian Ross in the championship match.

Ada's Lilly Cadenhead finished third in No. 1 Singles after rallying past Guthrie's Emma Poupard 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in a thrilling third-place matchup.

Ada's Annabell Peters finished ninth in No. 1 Singles and Presley Dickinson finished ninth in No. 2 Singles for the Lady Cougars.

The Byng Lady Pirates were led by the No. 1 Doubles team of Emily Holloway and Harmoni Moore who knocked off Hapani and Zubear of Casady 7-6, 6-4 for third place.

In No. 2 Doubles, Hannah Joy Nuthman and Brityn Waller of Christian Heritage rallied past Audrey Boatright and Jayci Cole of Byng 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 in a three-set third-place matchup.

Byng No. 1 Singles player Yocielin Hernandez dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Georgia Mosher of Carl Albert in the fifth-place match.

The Lady Pirates didn't have a No. 2 Singles player.

BOYS

The Ada High boys team got in a pair of singles matches before the rains came.

Halston Redwine rolled past Matt Lungstrum of rival McAlester 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 Singles and Ada's Brady Bacon defeated Owen Ramirez of Carl Albert 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 Singles action.
