Charlie Adam revealed that he has received lots of advice on his managerial career from Ian Holloway ahead of facing off against him.

The former Scotland international was a key player in Holloway’s Blackpool side which made it to the Premier League, scoring in the playoff final win at Wembley.

Fleetwood have hit a rough patch in recent weeks, having won none of their last three across all competitions and only one league game since putting six past Walsall on October 1.

The two now face off this weekend in opposing dugouts as Adam’s Fleetwood visit Holloway’s Swindon Town in League Two.

Speaking to BBC Sport Lancashire, he said: “It will be great to see Ollie, he was a huge part of my playing career.

“He is having a tough time, which is a part of management and he is a vastly experienced manager.

“I have spoken to him since I started management and he has given me some good words and good help.

“I learnt from him that you have to come into your work every day with a smile on your face and enjoy it.

“Tactically he was good and with the training but you also have to be structured and organised within the team.

“There are a lot of things that I have taken from the journey we were on, we had a great time together.”

In his pre-match press conference, Holloway spoke about how close the pair’s relationship was during their time together at Bloomfield Road.

He said: “Charlie and I will always be best buddies because we lived through all sorts of things together.

“That is what I do with my team and my players and that is why I very rarely want to criticise them.

“We lived through some hells together, it might not feel that way, but I am very proud of how he looks at me.

“He lost his father and he looks at me in the same way that he used to look at him and that makes me really proud.

“People can take what I have said and twist what I have said to have an opinion that is not the same as my opinion then that is fine, that is what life does.

“I know in my heart how my players feel about me and that is why I have done my job and why I am loving doing this job.”
