Stephen Kenny admits £6million would be a hefty price to pay for Celtic. But the former Republic of Ireland manager has backed Adam Idah to shine if he joins the Hoops on a permanent basis.

Idah, 23, inspired Celts to Double glory after netting crucial goals in the title run-in before snatching the winner in last weekend's Old Firm Scottish Cup Final. Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he'd love to have the Norwich City striker back for the new campaign but the Hoops will have to stump up one of their biggest ever transfer outlays to sign the Irishman.

Kenny handed the striker his international debut and has no doubt that he would take his game to the next level under Brendan Rodgers.

He told the Scottish Sun: "I put Adam into the Ireland Under-21s quite young. He led the line brilliantly, had good pace, can play with his back to goal and is a threat over the top. He did so well and I gave him a senior debut against Bulgaria.

"He had very good games against Portugal. We drew at home and lost 2-1 in Portugal to an injury-time goal. In both games he was terrific against players like Ruben Dias, Pepe and Cancelo. He led the line well.

"Adam scored a couple of in the last qualifying campaign and did very well against Holland in the game we lost 2-1 in Dublin. He was up against a strong back three of Matthijs De Ligt, Van Dijk and Ake and did very well.

"Going to Celtic was a good challenge for him and while £6million would be a high fee in Scotland, he's had a good impact. He's played a lot of international football now but the Champions League would be great - I'm sure he'd relish it.

He added: "If he goes to Celtic he'll have a coach who'll nurture him, bring more out of him. Brendan obviously regards him highly."
