Wolves are not expecting Barcelona to sign Adama Traore permanently, with Leeds United and Tottenham now chasing his signature, TEAMtalk understands.
The 26-year-old made his name at Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign and was once a game-changer at Molineux. However, he struggled to gel with current boss Bruno Lage and therefore moved on in January.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte wanted to convert the the winger into a right wing-back.
However, Traore opted for Barcelona instead and he joined Xavi’s side on a loan deal with an option to buy this summer.
Nevertheless, despite a fast start with assists in his first two Barca appearances, his future is again unclear. Indeed, TEAMtalk has learned that Wolves expect him to move back to the West Midlands this summer.
While the development is down to Traore’s drop-off in form, it also relates to the future of Francisco Trincao.
The Barcelona man is on loan at Wolves, who have decided not to strike a permanent deal. As such, Barcelona are now likely to follow suit with Traore, who will go the other way.
But, TEAMtalk understands that Traore’s representatives have already had contact from Leeds chiefs. They have a long-standing interest in the former Middlesbrough star.
What’s more, 90min reports that Barcelona will go after the Whites’ Brazilian sensation Raphinha.
As such, a double deal involving Leeds, Barcelona, Raphinha and Traore may develop.
TEAMtalk has also learned that Tottenham will reignite their interest in Traore in this summer’s transfer window.
Adama Traore ready for next step
Prior to his Barcelona move, Traore had played in 20 Premier League games for Wolves under Lage this season.
However, he only contributed one goal and made as many appearances from the bench – 10 – as he did starts.
Such form has not been an anomaly for Traore, either. It took him until the start of December to register his first Premier League goal contribution – an assist – last term.
He finished with two goals and three assists overall. Still, his form of late pales in comparison to when he scored three times against Manchester City in 2019/20 to help depose them as champions.
And with his contract expiring next summer, Wolves will feel there is still money to be made in the coming months if his future looks elsewhere – to avoid losing him for nothing.
