Arsenal are running out of time to finish the summer transfer window in the way which the club would want and certainly the way supporters are desperate to see. The Gunners have added only two new senior faces to the squad in Riccardo Calafiori and the soon-to-be-announced Mikel Merino.

Gabriel Jesus missed the weekend win over Aston Villa with a minor injury but the reality of the absence showed just how fragile the team can be. Eddie Nketiah was the only natural centre-forward on the bench and now he is closing on a move to Crystal Palace.

However, the depth behind Bukayo Saka has been the most pressing since before the summer window opened. Arsenal lack another left-footed right winger with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson all naturally left-sided.

There are potential options the club can consider in the final days of the window but not all match this profile. Nico Williams has appeared to be a favourite of the club but there are a number of issues with a deal. His release clause in excess of £40million must be paid upfront, his wages are exceptionally high for a player of his age and so far his preference has been to remain with Athletic Club; he would need convincing to leave with days remaining of the summer.

Simon Adingra of Brighton is another player appreciated. He started the season well and helped the Seagulls defeat Manchester United this past weekend in dramatic fashion but the seaside club are notoriously shrewd negotiators and will look for maximum value from the Ivory Coast international.

Federico Chiesa is available for transfer at a reported €15million (£12.7million). Injuries and form have brought the Italian international’s career which once held very high potential to a halt – although Arsenal would have to compete with Liverpool for his signing with Arne Slot's side said to have moved ahead of Barcelona in the running to sign the winger.

Raheem Sterling is another player whose future needs resolving before the close of the window. Manchester United have been most heavily mentioned but Mikel Arteta did speak glowingly in a recent press conference about the player he worked with during his time at Manchester City, opening the door to suggestions of a move.

Kingsley Coman is expected to leave Bayern Munich this summer and could be available on loan. However, he has significant wages and there is interest from Saudi Arabia which could prove difficult for Arsenal to match – plus the player's injury history will be rather dissuasive in consideration of the Frenchman.

Ademola Lookman is another name who has emerged as a link to Arsenal. PSG have been reportedly the most keen with the Gunners only monitoring the Nigerian international’s situation as Atalanta will look to get a serious fee for their Europa League final hat-trick hero.

Arsenal are a side who can surprise their fans with signings few expected. Therefore it would not be out of the ordinary for a name not mentioned here to suddenly be explored as the clock ticks down to Friday’s deadline.
