According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Fazli’s return to the chairman’s post was decided after the Taliban conducted a meeting with ACB officials on Sunday.
Fazli is part of the group of players who established the game in Afghanistan, he himself has been associated with Afghanistan cricket for nearly two decades and has also served as the advisor and vice-chairman of ACB prior to this.
Azizullah Fazli’s first task to see on Pakistan-Afghanistan ODI series
The acting chairman’s first mission will be to ensure Afghanistan’s ODI series with Pakistan goes ahead. After the Taliban came into power, there was a lot of uncertainty on the series taking place.
But both ACB and its counterpart Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) showed confidence about the series being played as it was planned before. The latest challenge for the series is that Sri Lanka, where the series will be played, has imposed a 10-day nationwide lockdown.
According to PCB, the ODI series was scheduled between September 3-September 9 with all matches were supposed to play at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
The series was earlier supposed to take place in the United Arab Emirates, but because of IPL 2021’s second phase happening there, the matches were moved to Sri Lanka.
