Afghanistan Under-19 Team Tour To Bangladesh In September, Confirms BCB

The tour of the Afghanistan Under-19 side to Bangladesh has been rescheduled, and the itinerary has been finalized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday. The tourists were earlier scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on August 31, but now they will arrive on September 4 and fly to Sylhet on the same day, the place where both sides will play 5 youth ODIs and a solitary four-day game.

On arrival, they will have to undergo a quarantine period of three days before two days of practice ahead of the first one-dayer. This will also be the first Afghanistan team to play international cricket since the Taliban takeover and the shifting of power in the country.

The first of the 5 ODIs are scheduled for September 10, followed by September 12, 14, 17, and 19. The four-day game will be played from September 22, following which they will return home after a 24-day stay in Bangladesh. All matches will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh are the current under-19 champions, having won the title last year defeating India in the final. This will be their first series in the pandemic era. The team is in preparation for the next edition of the U-19 World Cup which is going to be played in the Caribbean next year.

The BCB had started a residential camp in Sylhet from August 19 as part of the preparation for the Under-19 series against Afghanistan. BCB officials have also stated that the Bangladesh Under-19 team will participate in a tri-nation series in India in November.

Pakistan-Afghanistan ODI series rescheduled to 2022

As far as the senior Afghanistan side is concerned, their first-ever bilateral series with Pakistan has been postponed to next year The 3-match series was supposed to take place in Sri Lanka at the start of September but the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board mutually decided to push it back to 2022.

“The ACB had contacted the PCB on Monday evening, requesting to postpone the series for 2022 citing disruption of flight operations in Kabul, increased Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka, mental health of their players and non-availability of broadcast equipment,” PCB said in a release.

After the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan will travel to Australia for a one-off Test – their first against Australia – from November 27 in Hobart. Afghanistan are grouped with India, New Zealand, and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage.
