Agent leaks Liverpool, Newcastle target’s favourite club in obvious transfer message, with Euro giants ruled out
The agent of Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has revealed which club he supports, amid Liverpool and Newcastle United trying to sign the winger.
Napoli paid Georgian club Dinamo Batumi €10million to sign Kvaratskhelia in July 2022. It was unclear how well Kvaratskhelia would do in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues as he had only played in Georgia and Russia before.
Kvaratskhelia has quite simply blown everyone away during his short time with the Italian side. He is in stunning form, having registered 12 goals and 15 assists in 26 matches so far. Alongside deadly striker Victor Osimhen, he is helping Napoli on their way to a first Serie A title since Diego Maradona’s time at the club.
Kvaratskhelia isn’t just impressing in Italy, either. He has managed two goals and four assists during six Champions League appearances this season, too. The wide man set up skipper Giovanni Di Lorenzo with a delightful backheel as Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the first leg of their round of 16 tie. They are now in a strong position to make the quarter-finals.
It is not surprising that the 22-year-old’s amazing performances for Napoli have resulted in interest from some of Europe’s richest clubs. Liverpool and Newcastle are the two English sides pushing hardest to snare him. Meanwhile, in Spain, Real Madrid hope to take him to the Bernabeu.
Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Jugheli, has now made a big hint about where his client will end up. During an interview with Georgian TV channel Geo Team (via Goal), Jugheli said: “His father and I are Barca fans, but Kvara loves Real Madrid. If I see him in a Barca shirt I’ll be happy, but he’s Madridista. Napoli director asks me not to be in a hurry — Kvara likes everything in Napoli.”
It seems Real are likely to beat Liverpool and Newcastle to the attacker’s signature, should he ever come on the market. While Kvaratskhelia’s father and agent would like him to go to Barca, this is unlikely to happen given his love for Real.
Kvaratskhelia clearly has the ability to shine in the Premier League or La Liga. But this might not happen for several years as he is very comfortable in Naples.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will be tough to sign
In October, Kvaratskhelia’s father Badri said he ‘was always convinced’ that the Georgia talisman would do well for Napoli. He added that Kvaratskhelia is enjoying the ‘unity’ in the squad and is getting on very well with manager Luciano Spalletti.
Napoli’s huge success was always going to result in some of their best players being linked with big-money transfers. Indeed, earlier on Thursday it emerged that Chelsea are planning to double Osimhen’s wage as they try to sign him ahead of Manchester United.
But Napoli owner Aurelio Di Laurentiis is keen to point out that he does not have to sell any of his prized assets to drum up funds. Napoli are in a good financial position right now and this means they can keep their top players.
The only way Napoli will be convinced to sell Kvaratskhelia in the next few years is if a colossal bid worth over £100m comes in. This will then get Di Laurentiis thinking about whether he could improve several other positions by letting Kvaratskhelia move on.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are being tipped to move for a Newcastle ace, although the Magpies hope to engineer a new contract for him first.
