AI art will be shown off at the London Design Biennale 2023, with the creations of Ai-Da set to be seen within an exhibition.

Hailed as the world’s first ultra-realistic robot artist, the model can paint as well as illustrate objects such as plates, bowls, jugs, cups, teapots, vases, and cutlery. A 3D printer is used to bring to life what it has designed.

The exhibition AI Mind Home runs from June 1 to 25 at Somerset House and will allow visitors to see household objects the robot has decorated.

A statement in promotion assigned to Ai-Da said: “It is imperative that as a society we consider the implications of increasingly powerful new technologies.

“I hope my designs stimulate this discussion in the viewer.”

This is the fourth edition of the London Design Biennale and it will display more than 40 installations by design teams from around the world.

Organisers have said the event will take visitors on a sensory journey across Somerset House, from bread baking to VR gardens, musical instruments to ancient weaving.

A statement from the Biennale said Ai-Da’s presence marks the first time a humanoid robot has used AI algorithms to design household items and is “continuing the conjunction of our everyday lives and AI technology”.

“Ai-Da Robot will make history by showing her unique ability to design objects,” the statement added. “This is the first time a humanoid robot has ever achieved this as a designer.

“As the world’s first humanoid robot artist, new AI innovation has enabled her to develop her creativity in ways that prompt questions about humanity, the nature of creativity, what we want from AI, and what we might get.”

The Biennale is open 11am to 7pm until June 25. Tickets are from £23 and are on sale from somersethouse.org.uk/londondesignbiennale
