Aiden McGeady reveals shock Gordon Strachan move years after Celtic bust up
Aiden McGeady has revealed his old manager Gordon Strachan wanted to sign him at Dundee, despite the two often being at odds with one another.
McGeady, who recently announced his retirement from football, was involved in an on-field fracas with then-teammate Neil Lennon in 2006 and that’s when the tension between himself and Strachan all kicked off. McGeady was stopped by the former Scotland boss from lifting the man of the match award that day but the pair almost reunited not too long ago in the top flight.
That's not the only time they clashed, though. The winger was fined £30,000 and given a two-game ban after a dressing room incident in late 2008, with the pair parting ways when Strachan left in early 2009. Now in a role at Dundee, the 67-year-old wanted to get in touch with the skilful attacker to see if he fancied joining him at Dens Park, around the same time McGeady was moving back to Scotland.

He told the Let Me Be Frank podcast: "Before I signed for Hibs or Ayr United, he got in contact with my agent because I think he does something at Dundee - football development.
“He got in contact and he asked for my number and he said he was going to give me a call about potentially going to Dundee. And I went...100 per cent I'm not going to get a phone call. I never got one.
He added: “I've bumped into him a couple of times. I've bumped into him at a Celtic game. I've bumped into him at the Player of the Year awards at the end of last season. He was sitting in front of me. We'll be amicable. A lot of time has passed.”
