Airdrie ace Craig Watson out to end Ayr hoodoo and avenge 5-0 thrashing
Craig Watson says Airdrie must right the wrongs of their last meeting with Ayr today and end their hoodoo against the Honest Men.
The Diamonds have lost their last SEVEN meetings with Ayr and suffered one of their heaviest defeats to them back in August when they went down 5-0 at Somerset Park.
Since then, the sides have experienced hugely contrasting fortunes with Airdrie rock bottom of the Championship and without a win in their last eight league games, while Scott Brown’s side are in title contention with Falkirk and Livingston.

But Watson hopes getting a rare win over the rivals can be just the spark they need.
The defender said: “If ever there was a time to get the monkey off the back, Ayr is the game to do it in. They have been a real bogey team for us over the past year and a half.
“So it would be great to get one over on them due to our position in the league and our record against them. Hopefully we can right those wrongs.
“It has been a very frustrating time because we are showing glimpses of what we can play like, but we just haven’t put teams to the sword when we’ve had the chance.
“Bad results lead to low confidence and further bad results, but all it takes is one result. It could be a scrappy win or a well-earned point and that can lead to a positive cycle. You see that all the time in this league.
“It is still so incredibly tight and it is still early in the season, but actions speak louder than words. We need to get more points under our belts as soon as possible.”
Depleted Airdrie are still without injured stars Aidan Wilson, Dean McMaster, Liam McStravick, Aaron Reid and player-boss Rhys McCabe for the clash with Lewis McGrattan suspended following last weekend’s red card at Partick.
Watson added: “We are working hard in training to put things right. There is nothing else we can do. If ever there was a time to get points on the board and prove ourselves, it’s now.”
