Aisling Daly Says New Opponent is a Weaker Version of Her Original Foe

Aisling Daly Says New Opponent is a Weaker Version of Her Original Foe

The Ultimate Fighter 20 quarterfinalist and ninth-ranked women’s strawweight Aisling Daly was originally scheduled to face second-ranked Claudia Gadelha at UFC Fight Night 64, but Gadelha pulled out of the bout due to a back injury in late March. As a result, Daly was removed from the April 11 event and rebooked to compete two weeks later at UFC 186 against TUF 20 teammate Randa Markos.

Having trained with Markos while on the reality series, Daly believes she enters the fight with the advantage.

“I’m feeling super confident in that fight to be honest. Obviously, Randa was a teammate on The Ultimate Fighter and I got to train with her a lot,” said Daly during the UFC 189 World Tour Press Conference in Dublin.

“To be honest, in training, I was just better than her at every range. So I know I have that going for me going into the fight. She’s tough. She has good heart, but you’ll never beat the Irish on heart,” said the Dublin native.

When asked if she had to change anything in training camp to prepare for her new opponent, Daly said she didn’t have to change a thing. In her opinion, Markos will have a similar game plan as Gadelha, but Markos isn’t as skilled in her approach.

“I actually haven’t changed anything. Claudia is predominantly a wrestler, so a lot of the stuff we were working on was kind of anti-clinch stuff and defending the takedown. And Randa is a weaker version of Claudia with slightly sloppier takedowns. So same plan, same focus, just a different opponent,” said the 27-year-old.

UFC 186 takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal on April 25. Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson defends his title against Kyoji Horiguchi in the main event.
