Chelsea are reportedly coming back to the idea of signing Ajax winger Antony after encountering struggles over other attacking transfer targets.

The Blues are wasting no time in trying again to close the gap between themselves, Liverpool and Manchester City. They thought they had cracked the code last summer with Romelu Lukaku, but he has since departed Stamford Bridge again.

And it is time for fresh goalscoring talent to try to power Chelsea to a sustained Premier League title battle.

Thomas Tuchel’s side – backed by Todd Boehly’s fresh consortium of owners – are closing in on the signing of Raheem Sterling.

But Chelsea want even more investment in their front line ahead of the new season. Previous reports revealed how they contacted the entourage of Ajax’s Manchester United target Antony in June, before focusing on Sterling and others.

But 90min now claims that Antony is coming back into Chelsea’s crosshairs, with the London club pondering whether to ‘step up’ their interest.

The Blues have once again been in touch with the Brazilian’s entourage to reaffirm their interest. Chelsea had also looked at Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Leeds United’s Raphinha.

Although, Dembele is signing a new two-year deal and Raphinha is close to joining him at Camp Nou. Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry is another fresh target for Chelsea.

As for Antony’s future, talks between his camp, Ajax and Chelsea are in their infancy. United – more advanced in the transfer chase – are watching on.

Man Utd watch Chelsea, Antony interest

United have supposedly made a first bid of £51million for Antony, with whom former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag wants to reunite at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, the offer from Man Utd falls below Ajax’s £69million (€80million).

If Chelsea’s Raphinha transfer chase is anything to go by, they could yet gazump United to a deal.

At one stage, Arsenal looked to be the frontrunners for Antony’s compatriot. But Chelsea then put a higher offer in amid the Gunners’ haggling. As it has transpired, though, Raphinha’s heart is in a move to Barca.

Antony could well be more open to where his future takes him, as he has not yet sampled Premier League football yet unlike Raphinha.

But he will not come cheap and it remains unclear if either United or Chelsea will stump up the required fee.
