Ajax star Daley Blind has urged Man Utd to back new permanent boss Erik ten Hag as “he is one of the best managers around”.

The Dutchman was confirmed as the new permanent Red Devils boss last month with Ralf Rangnick taking charge of their remaining match against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

However, Ten Hag started working for Man Utd on Monday as he looks to sort the “make-up of the staff and the composition of the squad”.

Blind has made 171 appearances for Ajax since rejoining from Man Utd in 2018 and has worked under Ten Hag the whole time.

And now the Netherlands international has revealed what it is like to work for Ten Hag and urges the Man Utd hierarchy to back the 52-year-old.

Speaking in an interview with Andy van der Meyde on Bij Andy in de Auto, Daley said: “Erik ten Hag is a great guy.

“It’s not an easy job, of course, but he doesn’t run away from it either. He takes up the challenge.

“I am quite confident in him at Manchester United but he needs the board behind him. At Ajax he had [Edwin] Van der Sar and [Marc] Overmars behind him whatever happened, also in bad times.

“I hope he gets the time there, he is one of the best managers around.

“Ten Hag leaves nothing at chance. Sometimes we faced an opponent that we would automatically underestimate and we thought, ‘we don’t need a 45 minute meeting for this’.

“But he approaches every single game the same, tactical training sessions.. everything is detailed.”

Jadon Sancho is one player Ten Hag will be looking to get the best out of at Man Utd with the summer signing from Borussia Dortmund failing to produce his best form.

And Sancho said earlier this week that he is looking forward to a “fresh” start under the new manager.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Sancho said: “To start again fresh, with a new manager coming in, we’re looking forward to seeing what his ideas and plans for the team are.

“You only have to think positively. My career is only getting started and, hopefully, it will take off soon.”

He continued: “This has been a difficult season, especially being a Manchester United player, with what the club has achieved over the years.

“United is known for winning trophies and being up there with the best. This season has been a difficult one for all of us, but I think we still have to show belief again.”
