Former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has backed Virat Kohli on his poor batting show in the ongoing India vs England Test series. The former right-arm pacer has said that we cannot judge Virat Kohli in just 3 innings. The Indian skipper has largely struggled to come up with a big knock in the ongoing series, scoring just 62 runs from three innings of the two Tests so far.

Virat Kohli was gone for a one-ball duck in the 1st innings of the 1st Test encounter at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Later, he came up with scores of 42 and 20 in both the innings of the 2nd Test at Lord’s. The 32-year-old has also emerged defenceless against outside off-stump deliveries in the ongoing Test, losing his wicket on outswingers in each innings.

Ajit Agarkar Backs Virat Kohli On Poor Batting Against England

While speaking during a press conference organized by Sony Network, former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar advised that we should wait and see more innings by Kohli in the innings before making any conclusion about his batting form.

“Let’s wait and see, but in three innings you do not want to write someone off who has been a modern-day great. Virat Kohli got runs against England in the 2018 series with all their bowlers available.

“He got a great ball from James Anderson in the first Test, fought hard for his 40 odd in the second Test. You bowl an outswinger to batsmen in the corridor, they will knick the ball. These are conditions where the ball does swing and seam around. Bowling on the fourth stump is very difficult to play for most batsmen,” Ajit Agarkar said.

“When a bowler is in good spell, that Sam Curran ball in the second innings of the Lord’s Test was good deception. I am sure Kohli will like to get runs and all fans would like him to get big runs. The guy has got enough runs in international cricket, and maybe when you do not get runs, you are eager to get into the series, that might have happened,” Agarkar further said.

Although Virat Kohli has struggled with the bat, he has efficiently led the team in the series. Virat Kohli-led Indian team has gained a 1-0 lead against England. India completely destroyed England in the 2nd Test at Lord’s, restricting them to just 120 in the 2nd innings against a target of 272. Now, both the teams will arrive at Headingly in Leeds for the 3rd Test clash.
