Akira Corassani Draws Home Advantage with UFC on FOX 14 Bout

Swedish fighter Akira Corassani gets another UFC fight on his home turf, when he faces Sam Sicilia at UFC on FOX 14 in Stockholm.

UFC officials announced the featherweight bout on Thursday.

Corassani (12-5, 1 NC) is in desperate need of a win, as he is coming off back-to-back losses to Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier. His loss to Holloway took place in Sweden in October, so the home field advantage may not play a huge factor in the fight with Sicilia.

The fight is Corassani's fourth UFC bout in Sweden, but the first in the Tele2 Arena, which holds more than 30,000 people for soccer games, and that is something Corassani looks forward to.

“This is truly amazing and a dream come true,” he said in a UFC release. “As an ex-football player, I don’t want to miss the chance of fighting in a filled-up football arena.”

Sicilia (13-5) made his way to the Octagon via the fifteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, but it has been a rocky road ever since. He is 3-4 under the UFC banner, and has alternated between wins and losses in his last five fights.

Sicilia’s last fight was a loss to Katsunori Kikuno in Japan in September, so much like Corassani, he is looking to right the ship and secure his spot on the roster.
