While in Australia promoting his upcoming documentary on climate change, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power — a follow-up to his 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth — former Vice President Al Gore sat down with Studio 10 and spoke briefly about President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. would be pulling out of the Paris Agreement.
“I’ll be honest. I worried when he [Trump] made that announcement that others might follow him. But quite the contrary — the other nations of the world have redoubled their resolve to solve it [climate change], whatever he does,” Gore said.
Gore also praised the Paris Agreement, calling it a historic breakthrough and saying that it has already had a powerful effect. Besides mentioning his pleasant surprise that no other nations followed Trump’s lead and left the agreement, Gore also spoke about the reaction across the U.S.
“In the United States, the governors of states, the mayors of cities, the leaders of businesses have stepped up and said, ‘We’re going to meet our commitments regardless of what Donald Trump does,’” Gore said.
