Cristiano Ronaldo received plaudits left, right and centre after yet another stunning hat-trick in the white of Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old was the star of the show once again in the Champions League semi-final first leg, as his trio of strikes helped topple rivals Atletico Madrid to put one foot into the final in Cardiff on June 3.

It was his second hat-trick in two games, after hitting one against Bayern in the previous round, after which he had hit two in the first-leg at the Bernabeu.

His ability to put the ball in the net time and time again despite his now advancing years is truly remarkable, and one man known for scoring goals was just as impressed as everyone else.

Newcastle striker took to Twitter to express his amazement at the goal machine but was confronted by a fan, who tried to jump down Shearer's throat.

The 46-year-old had written: "47th hat-trick from @Cristiano. Absolutely staggering #ChampionsLeague #realatletico #CR7," to which a Ronaldo fanboy (@KdotAfc) replied: "42 not 47* typical p*** poor analysis from you mate, ain't watched MOTD in years cos of doughnuts like you, don't know s*** about football."

Not prepared to be spoken to in such a manner, Shearer made him look a little bit silly, and shot back: "You even retweet @SkySportsStatto and you still can't read. It's 47 for all clubs peanut brain."

Peanut brain. What a weird, yet gloriously refreshing insult.
