As a player, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer was an unstoppable force on the pitch with his deadly finishing rendering all defences on the land impotent. As a pundit now, he also reflects the way he played the game; not too flashy but straight to the point.
And that is precisely how he acted when he responded to a somewhat disgruntled fan during Manchester City and Real Madrid's first leg bore draw in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Shearer tweeted exactly what we all felt as two of the most expensively assembled sides in Europe played out a sleep-inducing stalemate.
It was an entirely justified opinion from the former England captain, but one fan in particular took exception. Perhaps he saw it as some sort of jibe or just frankly doesn't like Shearer as tweeted a vulgar and unnecessary attack on the 45-year-old.
Fuck off! How many did you play in? Prick https://t.co/O3UXqD258E— David Eaves (@davideaves1971) 26 April 2016
Shearer may not have played in a Champions League semi-final, but he has played in some of the biggest games in recent memory and he let this fan know about it with one destructive tweet.
It was a great response from a no-nonsense guy and if we're being frank, this Twitter exchange was probably more entertaining than what was on show at the Etihad, but we'll be hoping there is a Bernabeu blockbuster next Wednesday to compensate for what we were put through.
