Fabio Carvalho is quickly building a case to be a regular Liverpool starter following his goal in the thrashing of Bournemouth, claims Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 19-year-old netted his first Reds strike in front of the Kop on Saturday. It was Liverpool’s eighth of an afternoon in which they reacted in imperious style to Monday’s defeat to Manchester United with nine goals.

Carvalho has appeared as a substitute in each of his side’s four Premier League games so far.

Against United, he was a bright spark in what was a flat performance against Old Trafford. Carvalho then took the next step with his goal against the Cherries.

And speaking after the 9-0 win, right-back Alexander-Arnold lauded Carvalho’s emergence.

“He’s gelled well with the lads and he’s got the world at his feet. I’m sure he’ll go on to do amazing things,” Alexander-Arnold said.

“For him it’s about pushing a place into the team and making an impact and today he’s bagged himself a goal.

“He’s built himself a really good foundation for this season so hopefully he can go on and push further.”

Liverpool did not let up against Bournemouth, determined to prove they have not lost their touch. Indeed, there was a lot to prove after two draws and a defeat to start the season.

Alexander-Arnold lauds Liverpool display

“It was very special out there today, we took our chances and it was fantastic from the lads,” Alexander-Arnold added of the performance.

“It definitely was [a reaction], anytime you get beat you want to come out and win your next game.

“We had a point to prove after three disappointing games but the main thing was to come out and win and we did it in fantastic fashion.”

Liverpool return to action on Tuesday when facing Newcastle at Anfield.

Reds march on with momentum

The win over Bournemouth has offered Liverpool vital momentum as they look to kick-start their campaign.

Following the shaky start to the season, the Reds needed to get the gremlins out of their system. And they did it in style.

The result had all the hallmarks of a deadly Liverpool display – effective counter-pressing, fast transitions and goals from the front three.

Roberto Firmino scored two, as did Luis Diaz, as Jurgen Klopp’s men got back on track.
