Alexander Smith signs Rangers deal as highly-rated youngster snubs transfer interest from Arsenal and MLS

Alexander Smith has signed a new deal with Rangers who have managed to beat off transfer interest in the youngster.

The attacking midfielder, 16, was attracting interest from England with Arsenal named but other clubs also in the mix. He also has family connections in the USA and MLS clubs looked to lure him stateside. But the highly-rated youth has committed his future to the Ibrox side, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Claiming Smith has signed a new three-year deal to keep him in Glasgow, the transfer guru confirmed he had strong interest from down south and across the pond. It will be a boost for Gers as we've reached an age where young players in Scotland are regularly lured away by big clubs in England.

The Light Blues would have been due a six-figure compensation fee but Smith has instead opted to sign his first professional deal with them. Arsenal had been tracking him for some time.

The highly-rated left footer is a Scotland/United States dual national, is eligible for both nations and is capped by both at youth level.
