Alexander Zverev appears to have ruled himself out of Wimbledon after revealing he has torn 'several' ligaments in his foot. Zverev, who will be a career-high world number two on June 13, was likely to be top seed at SW19 due to Daniil Medvedev being banned from the tournament alongside other Russian players. However, he now looks certain to miss the tournament altogether due to the injury he sustained in his Roland Garros semi-final against Rafael Nadal. After a gruelling three hours on Court Philippe-Chatrier, Zverev attempted to chase down a Nadal forehand on the brink of a second set tiebreak but severely rolled his ankle. He left the court initially in a wheelchair before returning on crutches to concede the match. Zverev said in a video on his Instagram account: "Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot. "I will be flying to Germany to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover. "I want to thank everyone all over the world for the kind messages that I have received. Your support means a lot to me right now! "And many thanks to my friends from goodwill private aviation for taking such good care of me in the given circumstances.

"I will try to keep you updated as much as possible on further developments. See you next time Roland Garros." Although Zverev did not reveal the severity of the injury, tirn ligaments in the foot tend to take between four weeks and four months to heal. With Wimbledon no less than three weeks away, that makes it incredibly unlikely Alexander Zverev will be able to compete.
