Tsitsipas needed just one hour and 15 minutes to dispatch Zverev as he booked a place in final with Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The Greek tennis superstar won 6-4 6-2 to prevent Zverev from completing a triple crown of clay-court ATP Masters 1000 titles.

Tsitsipas has the German's number after extending his advantage in head-to-head contests to 7-3. The world number five put on some real moments of magic, but his main weapon was his ability to exert pressure on Zverev's serve. The Greek won 15 of 32 points against his opponent's first serve as he powered to a memorable victory in Monte Carlo.

Elsewhere, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina secured his first ATP Tour final after battling past Grigor Dimitrov in a hard-fought three-set match. The Spaniard won 6-4 6-7 6-3 as he added another big name to his list of victims at the tournament. The 22-year-old knocked out Novak Djokovic, Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz and even Belgian legend, David Goffin.

Tsitsipas hopes to avoid becoming Fokina's latest victim, telling the ATP website: "He's on a good run, in a good rhythm. I've played him before, he's a good opponent, I've had big battles against him and I'm going to try and be as ready as possible.

"I know he's improved from before and I'm going to have that in the back of my head, to produce the best tennis that I can."
