Alexandre Lacazette's ahead of schedule in recovery from knee injury

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette's ahead of schedule in recovery from knee injury, Arsene Wenger confirms

Arsene Wenger says Alexandre Lacazette is set to make his return from a knee operation ahead of schedule.

Arsenal striker Lacazette was ruled out for six weeks after undergoing an arthroscopy on his left knee last Tuesday, ruling him out of the Europa League rounds of 32 and 16.

It is understood that the knee problem had been a long-standing issue for Lacazette that required immediate attention after the 1-0 defeat at Tottenham earlier this month.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Ostersund Wenger confirmed that Lacazette was making strong progress in his recovery.

“He’s doing well,” Wenger said. “I think he will be ahead of his planned recovery. It should be four weeks from now, maybe three and a half weeks, so his response has been good.”

Even if Lacazette were to make his recovery in three and a half weeks it would appear unlikely he would be able to feature in any round of 16 tie, the second leg of which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 15, should Arsenal make it that far.

After that game Wenger’s side do not have another scheduled fixture until the visit of Stoke on March 1, though a new date needs to be found for the trip to Leicester after the Foxes reached the sixth round of the FA Cup.
