After five years in north London, Alexandre Lacazette's time at Arsenal has come to an end. The 31-year-old forward moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2017 for a then-club record fee of £46.5million. Now, after 206 appearances and 71 goals for the club, Lacazette will become a free agent this summer after the club and the player failed to agree on a new deal. Arsenal confirmed the news on Friday night, with Mikel Arteta leaving a departing message for his striker. "Laca has been a fantastic player for us," said Arteta. "He's been a real leader on and off the pitch and has been a very important influence to our younger players.

"His commitment with us has been exceptional and we wish him and his family success and happiness." Lacazette has also commented on his departure, and expressed his excitement at embarking on a new challenge. "I'm looking forward to a new experience and a new adventure," Lacazette told Arsenal's official club website. "I want to keep all the good moments I had in the club, because for me it was just a pleasure to play for a club that, since I was young, I dreamt of. "I'm really happy to have played for five years for Arsenal. "I'll keep in contact with my team-mates, with the coaches, with the club. "I supported Arsenal since I was young, so obviously I'm going to keep supporting them. I know I will come back to the stadium as well."

With Lacazette now off Arsenal's wage bill, the Gunners are expected to go all-out for Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian now surplus to requirements at the Etihad following the signing of Erling Haaland.

Jesus has been linked to the Gunners throughout the last few weeks, with negotiations ongoing between the two clubs. Arsenal are believed to have valued Jesus at around £40million, while City are holding out for a higher bid.
