The Alexis Sanchez transfer saga is finally over, with Manchester United swooping in to turn the Chilean’s head away from his reported agreement with Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City pulled out of the race after disagreements over signing-on fees and wages, paving the way for United to match Sanchez’s demands and offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a make-weight.

The 29-year-old will now earn a reported £350,000-a-week wage and join Jose Mourinho’s men in their attempts to close the gap on quadruple-chasing City.

What impact will he have?

Sanchez’s form has dipped since his summer move to City collapsed, but the desire that makes him such a formidable forward will now be back in abundance.

Mourinho demands high work-rates from his wide men, meaning Sanchez’s style will fit perfectly into United’s counter-attacking system in big matches.

Expect Paul Pogba’s superb passing to set the Chilean through on goal often, which will have United fan’s mouths watering, particularly when the Frenchman plays on the inside-left.

Sanchez’s capability to play in the middle or on either side of the front three will also put pressure on Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial to up their game.

How does he compare to United’s existing forward line?

So far this season Sanchez has scored seven and assisted three times across 17 Premier League appearances.

If Sanchez started on the left wing, Anthony Martial would make way, having assisted and scored one more than his replacement in four more matches.

Comparing United’s new addition as a front-man, £95m Romelu Lukaku has made four more contributions, netting 11 times and assisting three during five more games.

Sanchez did even play down the right wing under Guardiola at Barcelona, but even his ex-manager admitted this was a mistake and one Mourinho will presumably not repeat.

United have built up a wealth of attacking talent, but Mourinho now needs to discover where Sanchez should play in the most important matches and who he will leave out.

Why should he be in my team?

When fired-up, Chile’s all-time top goalscorer converts chances, completes countless take-ons and racks up assists that will add up to one large contribution to your points tally.

At United, a positionally-versatile Sanchez is likely to play more games than he would have in City’s superior squad, and that can only be good for his fantasy football prospects.

His performances so far this season have not been a great return for his high price (£24 on Yahoo), but a post-transfer investment could really reap great rewards.
